My Comment:

There is no live website to view with this one! There was, some time ago, but to cut down my hosting costs I took it down to work on more complex projects.

The Earthen One was just meant to be a simple blog, but one designed with some personality. I really dislike how bland and soulless a lot of sites are so you may have noticed in my portfolio that I really like to create a memorable brand. The Earthen One was designed to be a small, lightweight cottagecore blog for a girl and her dog living a slow life in the English country.

The blog was basic, with the ability to post images and videos and text as you’d expect, and with basic category systems and tags – but nothing advanced.

This shows the entire page when you’re reading a blog post

This shows how you filter blog posts, on the blog archive page.

Blog post categories were “Lifestyle” and “Thoughts” and clicking on either filtered the posts to show those relevant. Because it used AJAX, this was done without reloading the entire page, for better user experience.

Below is the last image I have, of the whole homepage – top to bottom. The images are blurred because when you’re scrolling, they fade in and unblur from the bottom of the screen, reversing that process at the top as you keep scrolling, to make the site feel more interactive.

Frequently Asked Questions

I’ve tried to answer a few common questions here but if you have one unanswered, please get in touch using this form!

For first contact? Not at all! Any questions or ideas are welcome, and if desired or beneficial I’m happy to have a free 30 minute phone call to speak in more depth with you about any hopes, dreams, or worries you may have – hopefully to bring the former into fruition, and dispel the latter!
I hope, rewarding! I am passionate and caring both about you and my work, and want to help you, earnestly. To that end, I am very happy to listen to your ideas and your dreams, and help to build them.
I am also honest, and will advise where I think there may be a better way, or where something may end up being a mistake, always with your best interests in mind.
Working with me is like working with a partner, not an employee. It is a relationship of mutual and mature respect, where each of us has agency, and expertise in our field.
It is one that I hope will lead to a close working relationship, anchored by shared trust and values.
Possibly – but possibly not! What I might not know about your field, I can learn – or defer to you. What I do know about is building websites.
I enjoy new challenges, it keeps the job interesting. I understand that a lack of obvious experience in your specfice niche may be a cause for worry, but if you’re willing to take a chance on me, I am very willing to do my best by you.
The probability is high that I know of a system/solution that would indeed help you, but I’ve just never had the opportunity to use it that way before.
If I do genuinely think it is out of my scope, I’ll be honest about that. I neither wish to waste your time nor sully my reputation by over-promising.
I like to think I am fairly priced. I put a lot of care and effort into my work, and that takes time. I am however aware that we live in a time of economic strife and I am more willing than most to work around that with you.
I believe very much in honesty and so have put up as much information as I can regarding my costs on my Bespoke and Package service pages, as well as my Hosting plans, and Addons.

While I won’t haggle over the value of my work, I will very gladly help you with payment plans, should you like to work with me but find the cost prohibitive. Or perhaps agree a smaller project to start, and build in everything else at stages, later.

Website builders such as Wix and Squarespace can be a useful starting point for those on a tight budget, but they come with significant limitations. I talk about them, and AI builders, here.
